We are proud to announce that 2015 Magnum Photos Nominee <a href='http://www.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx?VP3=CMS3&VF=MAGO31_10_VForm&ERID=2K1HRG672062&mc_cid=6f3a2763cb&mc_eid=326f72ebcc' target='_blank'>Newsha Tavakolian's</a> essay Iran, Coming Out of the Shadows has won First Place in the <a href='http://www.poyi.org/' target='_blank'>Picture Of the Year</a> award in the Feature Picture Story category.
A self-taught photographer, Newsha began working professionally in the Iranian press at the age of 16, at the women's daily newspaper Zan. In 2002 she started working internationally, covering the war in Iraq. She has since covered regional conflicts, natural disasters and worked on social documentary stories. Her work has been published in international magazines and newspapers such as Time Magazine, Newsweek, Stern, Le Figaro, The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, The New York Times Magazine and National Geographic.
