March 11th marks the 5th anniversary of the 9.0 magnitude Tohoku Earthquake. Also known as the "Great East Japan Earthquake", the gigantic quake shifted the earth's axis, moved the entire main island of Japan, Honshu, 8 feet east. The results of the earthquake and the massive Tsunami which followed were enormous: 16,000 killed, 6,000 injured, 2,500 missing, 229,000 displaced, and an estimated $235 billion in damage. The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant suffered a level 7 meltdown, forcing the evacuation of all people living within 12 miles of the plant.
