The Art of Street Photography Course, Live Now
Magnum’s new online education course sees seven photographers offer insights, technical advice, and reflections upon street photography, an oeuvre embedded in Magnum’s history
Magnum Photos has a long and rich history in the genre of street photography. Magnum co-founder Henri Cartier-Bresson’s seminal concept of ‘the decisive moment’ set an early precedent for the collective’s exploration of the street. While the meaning of street photography has evolved over the decades with new technologies and approaches, Magnum photographers continue to be world-renowned practitioners within it.
In the first of our new series of online education courses, seven Magnum photographers with famed and distinct practices, explore the breadth of street photography, and offer exclusive advice to participants. Bruce Gilden, Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas, Richard Kalvar, Carolyn Drake, Peter van Agtmael and Mark Power pool advice and knowledge reflecting the breadth of street photography’s boundaries and interpretations.
Aimed at photographers and visual artists of all levels, the course comprises ten engaging and revealing on demand video lessons. From the importance of mindset and framing, to the various approaches available when approaching subjects, and the importance of editing, the course is designed to help improve the photographic practices of those who take part.
Alongside revealing, candid interviews with the photographers as well as on-location tutorials, a number of industry experts also share their advice. Alongside the ten video tutorials students will receive digital workbooks which contain expanded interviews, tips and tricks as well as suggested further reading on the topics discussed.
