A Look Back at Visions Forward
We're taking a moment to celebrate the 77th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Magnum Photos with images taken of and by our Members at past gatherings through the decades.
Since its founding, Magnum Photos has held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in summer each year, usually in June. Rotating between Paris, New York, and London most years, Magnum photographers, estates, and the agency’s international staff convene to discuss company business. The AGM is an opportunity to review work, discuss the year ahead, and forge or strengthen collaborative bonds. Notably, one entire day is designated for the collective’s Members to vote on potential new full Members, Associate Members, and Nominee photographers. Alongside business decisions, Magnum organizes several public events to foster greater connection between Magnum, the photographers, and the photographic community.
Instead of Paris, this year’s AGM takes place in Arles, marking the first time in over a decade that the annual meeting is being held in the South of France. Magnum has programmed a series of talks, signings, and exhibitions for those in and around the city in the days leading up to the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival.
Here are some memorable moments from past AGMs.
Last year’s AGM was hosted in London, with the agency welcoming four new full members: Gregory Halpern, Nanna Heitmann, Lúa Ribeira and Rafał Milach. Zied Ben Romdhane moved up to become an associate member.
Magnum celebrated its 65th anniversary during the AGM in Arles in 2012. Now, 12 years later, Magnum returns to the city for its 77th annual meeting.
Announcements about new members, associate members, and nominees will be posted in the week following this year’s AGM.
