Description

Join photographers Sara Aue Sobol and Jacob Aue Sobol on a five-day workshop to capture the poetry of daily life in Sirmione, Italy.

Particularly known for its heritage and its stunning views over Lake Garda, the historical town of Sirmione has drawn visitors since Roman times. In collaboration with the city, Magnum Photos offers a unique chance for photographers worldwide to capture moments that speak not just of people and places but of human connection and the poetry of daily life.

“Our lives and images are a journey filled with arrivals and departures. They are also a journey through ourselves – a study of indefinable, emotional states that often control us, inspire us, and move us.” says Magnum photographer Jacob Aue Sobob. These five days are not only about taking photos; it’s about expressing the profound, intangible experiences that shape you.

To explore your practice, you will receive personalized assignments on creating an abstract visualisation of the moments when we meet and part, when we see things for the first or last time, when we fall in love, or are left behind.

By the end of the week, your two mentors will make a selection out of all participants’ work and present it on Friday evening during a public screening open to all inhabitants of Sirmione. This will be the occasion to invite and share a moment with the people you’ve met and photographed during the week.

This workshop offers:

  • The ability to create a coherent series within the constraints of time and place
  • An in-depth reflection on your personal vision of photography
  • Techniques for connecting with people and places on a more profound level, bringing out the essence of each interaction
  • A deeper understanding of photography as a poetic medium, transforming images into expressions of your inner world
  • Reviews sessions with two international photographers : whether it is group or individual reviews, you will benefit from personalized advice and engage in discussions towards the medium
  • A public screening: your work will be displayed on the last day of the workshop
  • A 50-page workbook on how to get started in photography

The workshop is open to photographers of all levels, from passionate amateurs to working professionals who want to develop their unique photographic voice.
