Mentorship

Canaj’s mentorship emphasizes the power of vision and personal journey in photography. He guides photographers to find their unique voice and vision. Reflecting on his journey, Canaj states, “I’ve learnt that it is very important to have a vision and to follow your path towards it, with the camera as your closest companion, as an extension of yourself. Exploring situations that don’t necessarily cause a visible change, but create internal changes that you can only sense and smell and feel, leaves you in a good creative place.”

His mentorship approach, influenced by his photojournalism career, encourages exploring personal themes, authenticity, and emotional connections. Canaj fosters an environment for experimentation and risk-taking, offering practical insights from his experience with major publications. He advises on building relationships with editors and sustaining a freelance career, using his achievements as inspirational benchmarks.

Canaj’s mentorship is also characterized by empathy and respect in storytelling. He urges mentees to approach subjects sensitively, ensuring their work reflects dignity. By sharing his journey and insights, Canaj empowers photographers to find their own path, using the camera as a true extension of themselves.
