Description

The Empire State Building is to New York as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. Visible from a great distance, this grand example of architecture is a staple of the city’s iconic skyline.

Designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, built in a record time of thirteen months, and finished in 1931, the Empire State Building stood as the world’s tallest building until the construction of the World Trade Center in 1970.

The building’s Art Deco architecture, height, and observation decks have made it a popular attraction for tourists and New Yorkers alike. The Empire State Building is an American cultural icon: it has been featured in more than 250 television shows and movies since the film King Kong was released in 1933.

With a total height of 1,454 feet, the Empire State Building is not only a welcomed view to Magnum photographers, it is also a great challenge; how does one fit this grand building into one’s lens?

The Empire State Building is the closest thing to heaven in this city
