Description

For the second year in a row, the Magnum Learn team is thrilled to invite you onto a journey through the Cyclades islands, Greece, with Magnum photographer Enri Canaj.

From September 22—27, 2024, explore different ways to take meaningful photographs in locations that have been over-photographed in the last decades, discovering how to approach subjects with a fresh perspective whilst developing your photographic voice. Last year’s edition took place in Tinos, Naxos and Syros and we’re thrilled to continue this photographic Odyssey in Sifnos and Milos.

“The Cyclades islands are a particularly unique destination in the Aegean sea,” Canaj, who has been living in Greece since 1991, explains. “They are considered the birthplace of some ancient gods and home to some of the most important archeological ruins. A mix of elements between mythology and modern times, as the perfect way to glimpse the land of the howling wind.”

Traveling through the Cyclades with Enri Canaj is a chance to visit the islands off the beaten tracks, discussing the history, philosophy and gastronomy using the medium of photography as an excuse to interact with the places. The week will be spent with fellow photographers, shooting during the day and attending group feedback sessions in the evenings.

The workshop has been designed by Enri Canaj himself, coming from his desire to share with a wider audience the part of Greece that he has now been photographing for years. Enri has been organizing traveling workshops for many years, in Albania and in the North of Greece.

“I enjoyed the on the road/moving formula. Beside the fact that it was very well organized, it gave the opportunity to bond more as a group, to experience different places and to get a feeling of what a reportage work might mean. One thing I really appreciated was the amount of time Enri spent with us for the reviews and going out for shooting.” — Feedback from a workshop participant of the Journey Through the Cyclades with Enri Canaj in May, 2023.

The workshop is open to photographers of all levels, from passionate amateurs to working professionals who want to further refine their skills in the art of street photography.
