Join Magnum photographer Yael Martínez for a 5-day immersive workshop in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, Peru.
Are you feeling lost in your creative practice? Do you struggle with intentionality and purpose in your work? Are you seeking new photographic inspiration?
This workshop aims to help you overcome these challenges and build confidence in your photography. Whether you’re looking to start a new project in a short time or reinterpret existing images through collage or writing, this workshop offers an opportunity to grow creatively.
A particular focus will be on editing and sequencing. You’ll spend one day working together as a group to create a small zine with a carefully selected group of yours and your peers’ photographs to edit, sequence and print a small collective zine, which will be presented along with the work developed throughout the workshop on the last night in Maleza. Martínez, who has explored painting, collage, and interventions in his practice, will share his techniques and processes with you.
Urubamba, located in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, is a region rich in cultural heritage. This workshop also offers the chance to practice intentionality in your photography in a place that has historically been over-photographed.
Maleza, a cultural space created by photographers, features a library of photobooks and provides the ideal environment for learning, deep discussions, and experimentation. Last year, it was awarded the prestigious Eugene Smith Howard Chapnick Prize for its contribution to documentary photography education.
I believe that when photography engages with education, culture, and politics, we can create a better world with different voices and perspectives in life. – Yael Martínez
