Alec Soth As a child I loved to build forts in the woods behind my house. In high school, this desire to create something from whatever materials were at hand led me to start making sculptures. In college, t
(...) he process of photographing these sculptures led me to photography. I eventually abandoned sculpture, but whenever I feel stuck, I return to it in an informal way. I don't actually think of this practice as sculpture, it's more like those humble cairns that travelers make to mark their journey. During the Coronavirus lockdown, I returned to this practice. At an abandoned railroad track near my studio, I found the perfect place to work. Using the refuse left behind from generations of train-hoppers, I'd spend hours playing a kind of junkyard Jenga. With this assignment I adorned my makeshift balancing act with high end fashion accessories. I wish I could leave these treasures for others to stumble upon in the future. Minnesota. USA.
