Airbus Reveals the Construction Stages of the A380
Commissioned by Airbus, Magnum photographer Mark Power documented the entire construction process for the largest passenger plane ever built, the Airbus A380
Airbus commissioned Mark Power to document the story behind the creation and construction of the biggest passenger plane ever built, the Airbus A380.
Mark Power’s work illuminates the diverse sites of production and the various stages of construction. Because of its extraordinary size, Airbus first had to construct the infrastructure, such as the building to house the final assembly line in Toulouse, factories throughout Europe and extensive transportation networks, including a specially built ship.
Thus, these photographs portray the process with clarity and visual adeptness to give the viewer a glimpse into the infrastructure, the inception, and construction of the plane itself, and finally, its first flight.
The assignment culminated in many internal exhibitions to celebrate each important step of the A380’s development, as well as three shows at the photography festival Printemps de Septembre in Toulouse.
